Rouen: Family monument

The monument named “Au bout de l’errance” ( At the end of wandering) was set in 1995 in memory of the bombings of 19th April 1944 in the market square in Rouen also known by Place 19ème Avril.

The monument depicts a family of four, parents and their two children. The father leads the way out of ruins caused by 6000 bombs that killed many and wounded many more.

This art by Dominique Denry stands in the midst of a basin and the sculpture that springs out is symbolic of victory of life over death. A hope out of hopelessness and helplessness.
